MEXICAN HAND MADE COPPER FRIDA

Beautiful Mexican image of Frida Kahlo inside hand made copper frame nice on reverse side as well small hook for hanging. Delicate. 10.5x14.5 cm

This painting Frida completed after she cut off her hair when she and Diego had their first break up. She has replaited her cut hair with cloth. Plaits are a traditional hairstyle in Mexico and Frida paid careful attention to her hair and clothing. She wears a stone necklace that appears like a prisoner's or slave collar with a tiny mask often painted by artists referring amongst various things to theater as a pendant and then surrounded herself with indigenous vegetation.

Gentileschi in a self portrait also wears a small mask same kind of motif.
